overnor Beverly Perdue’s office recently released the 2008 Visitor Spending numbers, and Johnston County realized a 2.9% increase in visitor spending. Johnston County ranks #22 in the state and third in the Research Triangle Park in visitor spending behind Wake and Durham counties.

New Smithfield Recreation & Aquatic Center Opens
After years of planning and collaboration between the Town of Smithfield and the Johnston County Board of Education, the new Smithfield Recreation & Aquatic Center has opened.
