ABA Fam group visits Ava Gardner Museum

The American Bus Association is meeting in Charlotte, NC for the week of January 7-13, where 3,500 people from all over the country will have appointments with Destination Marketing Organizations, hotels, attractions and other suppliers to organize and plan group tour itineraries and networking.

The Charlotte organizing committee has been working on this event for over 12 months, and the Johnston County Visitors Bureau was the team leader on the Hollywood & Vine Pre-Fam. A familiarization tour is often utilized to introduce potential clients to a destination to sample the attractions, hotels and restaurants to sell them on a return visit.

JCVB organized a pre-fam that involved the cities of Durham, Fayetteville and Roanoke Rapids as partners to showcase entertainment, gardens and wineries in the region. The fam consisted of operators from Texas, Washington, Connecticut, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. The group was based in Selma, as they stayed three nights at the Hampton Inn, and on day one they traveled to Duke Chapel & Gardens and the NC Museum of Life & Science in Durham, and then traveled to the Roanoke Rapids Theatre where 40 plus members of the community welcome the group with music, dinner and a wealth of information from area attractions.

On day two the group visited Fort Bragg for breakfast on base and a tour of the historic district, the Airborne & Special Operations Museum, and the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens. While in Johnston County the group visited the Ava Gardner Museum, Carolina Premium Outlets, JR Discount Center and Hinnant Vineyard & Winery. A visit to Bentonville Battlefield had to be canceled due to a family illness with one of the attendants. Also, while in the area the group dined at Texas Steakhouse & Saloon in Smithfield and Parkside Cafe in Pine Level.
