Public Service Announcement for our Troops
It is my job to promote tourism in Johnston County, so it is rare that I would announce events outside the county, however, as I grew up an “Army brat” I have tremendous respect for our armed forces and if you have the time you may want to join in the appreciation event for our troops in Raleigh. The following announcement is from the organizers of “Salute to our Troops”.
On April 26, 2008 there will be the largest Military Appreciation event of its type ever held in North Carolina. It is entitled “Salute to Our Troops” and is focused on the military and their families based in North Carolina.
The salute begins at 10:00 am with a flyover of four F-15E Strike Eagle jets followed by a full military parade complete with troops marching, bands playing, floats and probably the largest mobile collection of modern military equipment compiled in more than fifty years. All branches of the military will participate. Following the parade, there will be static displays of the parade equipment plus many more items that the military uses in the performance of their jobs. Several NASCAR show cars will also be on display. The North Carolina Pork Council will be providing samples of cooked pork tenderloin to the public at no charge.
We would like to see at least 40,000 or more spectators in Downtown Raleigh that day to cheer on and “Salute” our military and their families. We anticipate as many as 10,000 active duty and reserve troops and their families. Visit http://www.saluteourNCtroops.org/ for more information.
